Weekend cross country results and new coaches poll

Most cross country teams will open their season this week, many at the Hudson’s Bay Run-A-Ree.

But three Clark County teams got an early jump on the season by racing in the Ultimook Invitational at the Hydrangea Ranch in Tillamook on Saturday.

The Skyview boys placed third in the 6A-5A division behind Grant and Lakedridge. Junior Kaden Harbertson was fifth (18:45) on what appears to be a tough course. Sophomore Mason Scheidel with eight (18:59)and junior Ethan Bauer was 10th (19:12). Kienen Wayrynen (35th, 20:32) and Marshall Johnson (39th, 20:46) rounded out the scoring five for Skyview.

Even though it was be a 6A school in Oregon, Battle Ground ran in the 4A-1A division at Tillamook. The Tiger boys placed second (89 points) to host Tillamook (67), and just ahead of Washougal (102).

Senior Noel Reyes paced the Tigers (8th, 19:03) and was followed by Isaac Brown (11th, 19:16), Quinn Nelson (14th, 19:37), Kyle Johnson (29th, 20:16) and Aaron Frances (34th, 20:45).

Washougal was led by Thomas Normandeau (fifth, 18:40), Nicolas Velardi (18th, 19:47), Bailey Duncan (20th, 19:51), Collin Manning (27th, 20:09) and Anthony Velardi (43rd, 21:10).

Three freshmen led the Skyview girls, who placed 14th in the 6A-5A division — Sydney Harp (73rd, 28:11), Esther Gurshun (87th, 29:19) and Brittan Robinett (9th, 29:20). Shelby Lee (90th, 29:30) and Megan Condon (91st, 29:30) rounded out the scoring five.

Battle Ground placed fourth in the 4A-1A girls division, while Washougal was seventh.

Senior Rachel Rast paced Battle Ground (31st, 26:36), followed by Danielle Russell (34th, 26:54), Christina Devine (39th, 27:07), Rebekah Boucher (48th, 27:31) and Alexander Walker (71st, 28:25).

Washougal was led by Hannah Wright (15th, 25:02), Courtney Owens (29th, 26:25), Megan Anderson (54th, 27:49), Sydney Hickey (69th, 28:22) and Karina Miller (75th, 28:33).

And there’s a new coaches poll, but not much has changed.
