Vancouver Rejects Have A New Name

Well, the big news today out of the city of Hillsboro is that the minor league baseball team they snagged after Clark County rejected it has a new name: Hillsboro Hops.

First, let’s have a moment of silence for Boomer.

Thank you.

Now, we know why we didn’t get the team and why Hillsboro did.

So let’s move on — what do you think of the name? And will you be going to see a game?

According to The Oregonian, the name was selected from more than 400 fan submissions. “Ultimately the Class A baseball club settled on the Hops because minor league franchises heavily depend on characters, and the crop pointed to the ‘agricultural history of Hillsboro’ and the region,” wrote reporter Andrew Theen.

(General Manager and co-owner K.L. Wombacher) “acknowledged that Hillsboro isn’t currently known for hops, but the crop is ‘an economic driver for the state,'” Theen wrote.

Um, OK. By that reasoning, a Clark County team could have been the Vancouver Aplets & Cotlets.
