Madore asks for Facebook records, denies his own
David Madore and his attorney are seeking public records from a county employee’s Facebook page while refusing to hand over records connected to the Republican Clark County councilor’s own page.
Deputy County Manager Bob Stevens has thrown caution to the winds and begun to openly oppose Madore’s reelection efforts. He’s spoken critically of the Republican councilor while endorsing Republican John Blom in Madore’s district and Republican Jennifer McDaniel for the seat Councilor Tom Mielke is retiring from this year.
Madore, it seems, has taken notice. I filed a records request for all records requests filed by Madore or his attorney – meta, I know – and they’re asking for “all public records created, sent, received or maintained by Bob Stevens on his Facebook account.”
Madore, however, has again and again defended that his Facebook page – which he most certainly uses to write about county business – is not subject to public records requests.
“This Facebook page does not belong to those claiming that they have a right to control it,” Madore posted recently. “Anyone claiming otherwise becomes a thief and a liar. We must respect individual private property rights.
I emailed Madore’s attorney, Nick Power, to ask if I can expect Madore to turn over the records I’ve requested from his account, including any messages pertaining to county business.
I never heard back.
