Here are Week 8 preview caps for high school football teams in Southwest Washington from Castle Rock to White Salmon.

Union (1-5, 0-1) vs. Camas (7-0, 1-0)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Doc Harris Stadium, 1125 NE 22nd Ave, Camas

What: 4A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Union lost to Skyview 42-0; Camas beat Battle Ground 63-7.

Livestream: NFHS Network (subscription required)

Last meeting: Camas 52, Union 27, Oct. 20, 2023.

Game notes: Camas has won 16 of its last 17 games and 22 of its last 25. The Papermakers also have won the last 10 consecutive 4A Greater St. Helens League game. The last time Camas lost to a 4A GSHL opponent was on Feb. 26, 2021 to Union in the COVID season opener.

Prediction: Camas 48, Union 6

Skyview (5-2, 1-0) vs. Battle Ground (3-4, 0-1)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: District Stadium, Battle Ground HS, 300 W Main St., Battle Ground

What: 4A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Skyview beat Union 42-0; Battle Ground lost to Camas 63-7.

Livestream: BGTV 27 YouTube channel

Last meeting: Skyview 39, Battle Ground 6, Oct. 20, 2023.

Game notes: Skyview’s defense held Union to 76 total yards last week, with 38 coming in Union’s final possession with reserves on the field. A win this week for the Storm coupled with a Camas win over Union will clinch a Week 10 playoff sport for Skyview.

Prediction: Skyview 48, Battle Ground 6

Prairie (3-4, 1-2) vs. Shelton (1-6, 1-2)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Highclimber Stadium, Shelton HS, 3737 N Shelton Springs Rd, Shelton

What: 3A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Prairie lost to Evergreen 36-7; Shelton lost to Mountain View 37-7.

Livestream: NFHS Network (subscription required)

Last meeting: Shelton 27, Prairie 7, Sept. 27, 1996.

Game notes: With the 3A Greater St. Helens League receiving only two berths to the Week 10 playoffs (the league gets three in 2025), this game basically boils down to a playoff game for both teams. The loser will be eliminated from postseason contention. Even with a win, Prairie will be out of the postseason race if Kelso and Evergreen both win this week.

Prediction: Prairie 28, Shelton 13

Kelso (5-2, 2-1) vs. Mountain View (2-5, 2-1)

When: 4:30 p.m. Friday

Where: McKenzie Stadium, Evergreen HS, 2211 NE 138th Ave., Vancouver

What: 3A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Kelso beat Heritage 42-13; Mountain View beat Shelton 37-7.

Livestream: Evergreen Public Schools YouTube channel.

Last meeting: Mountain View 35, Kelso 34, Oct. 13, 2023.

Game notes: Kelso will secure a playoff berth with a win coupled with an Evergreen win over Heritage. Mountain View will be eliminated from the postseason race with a loss and an Evergreen win over Heritage. The Thunder have won back-to-back games after an 0-5 start. Mountain View has allowed just seven points in their last two wins. Stopping the Hilanders will be a challenge. Kelso senior Aden Mintonye has rushed for 1,351 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Prediction: Kelso 34, Mountain View 19

Evergreen (6-1, 3-0) vs. Heritage (3-4, 0-3)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: McKenzie Stadium, Evergreen HS, 2211 NE 138th Ave., Vancouver

What: 3A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Evergreen beat Prairie 36-7; Heritage lost to Kelso 42-13.

Livestream: Evergreen Public Schools YouTube channel.

Last meeting: Evergreen 54, Heritage 0, Oct. 12, 2023.

Game notes: Evergreen will clinch a Week 10 playoff berth with a win and also clinch at least a share of the 3A Greater St. Helens League championship (teams that finish with an identical record atop a league standing are considered co-champions regardless of head-to-head result; head-to-head results are used to determine seeding). It would mark Evergreen’s first league championship since 2007.

Prediction: Evergreen 42, Heritage 7

Woodland (5-2, 5-0) vs. Mark Morris (3-4, 3-2)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Longview Memorial Stadium, R.A. Long HS, 2903 Nichols Blvd, Longview

What: 2A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Woodland beat Hudson’s Bay 49-15; Mark Morris beat Hockinson 18-14.

Livestream: Mark Morris High School Hudl account.

Last meeting: Woodland 42, Mark Morris 7, Oct. 20, 2023.

Game notes: Woodland has already clinched a berth in the Week 10 playoffs. The Beavers have won five games in a row, led by the defense and senior Elijah Andersen. Mark Morris has also been led by the defense, so this could be a defensive battle. Freshman Avery Elliott played a big role in last week’s win over Hockinson. Mark Morris will clinch a Week 10 playoff berth with a win and losses by both Columbia River and R.A. Long.

Prediction: Woodland 27, Mark Morris 7

Hudson’s Bay (0-7, 0-5) vs. Hockinson (0-7, 0-5)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Hockinson High Stadium, Hockinson HS, 16819 NE 159th St, Hockinson

What: 2A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Hudson’s Bay lost to Woodland 49-15; Hockinson lost to Mark Morris 18-14.

Livestream: Hockinson High School Hudl page (game pass or subscription required)

Last meeting: Hudson’s Bay 21, Hockinson 18, Oct. 19, 2023.

Game notes: This is a battle of winless teams. But both teams have the potential to finish the season with back-to-back wins. They also have come to their 0-7 records by different paths. Bay opened the season with competitive losses, but recent losses have been more lopsided as injury and attrition has tested the Eagles’ depth. By contract, Hockinson opened the season with lopsided losses, but have been competitive in most league games. Four league losses have come by three points, three points, four points and 10 points. Turnovers have been the big downfall for Hockinson.

Prediction: Hockinson 28, Hudson’s Bay 13

R.A. Long (3-4, 2-3) vs. Ridgefield (7-0, 5-0)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Ridgefield Stadium, Ridgefield HS, 2630 Hillhurst Rd, Ridgefield

What: 2A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: R.A. Long lost to Washougal 28-0; Ridgefield beat Columbia River 40-10.

Livestream: Ridgefield High School Hudl page.

Last meeting: Ridgefield 35, R.A. Long 0, Oct. 20, 2023.

Game notes: The season started with such promise for R.A. Long. The Lumberjacks opened the season 3-1 for the first time since 2014. But they have since dropped three straight, and their last two losses have come by shutout. Now, they go up against a Ridgefield defense that is allowing a league-low 9.7 points a game. R.A. Long remains very much in the hunt for a playoff berth. A win this week would boost those chances immensely, but a win over Mark Morris may be more pivotal in determining postseason eligibility for the Lumberjacks. Ridgefield has clinched a Week 10 playoff berth, but still have their sights set on a 2A GSHL championship.

Prediction: Ridgefield 31, R.A. Long 7

Washougal (4-3, 3-2) vs. Columbia River (3-4, 2-3)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: John O’Rourke Field, Columbia River HS, 800 NW 99th St, Vancouver

What: 2A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Washougal beat R.A. Long 28-0; Columbia River lost to Ridgefield 40-10.

Livestream: NFHS Network (subscription required)

Last meeting: Washougal 45, Columbia River 6, Oct. 20, 2023.

Game notes: A win and a R.A. Long will clinch a Week 10 playoff berth for Washougal. Elijah Franco, who had been making big plays on defense earlier this season, showed his versatility on offense last week, throwing a touchdown pass and rushing for two touchdowns. The Panthers defense is allowing 10.6 points a game, second-best in the 2A GSHL. A win for Columbia River will boost the Rapids’ postseason hopes. But win or loss, River still might be in the mix with a win over Hudson’s Bay next week. But if River wants to avoid the No. 5 seed – which must win a Tuesday district pigtail game – to reach the Week 10 playoffs, a win over Washougal is pivotal.

Prediction: Washougal 24, Columbia River 10

Castle Rock (5-2, 3-2) vs. King’s Way Christian (4-3, 2-3)

When: 6 p.m. Friday

Where: Preece Memorial Stadium, King’s Way Christian Schools, 3606 NE 78th St, Vancouver

What: 1A Trico League game

Last week: Castle Rock beat Fort Vancouver 49-0; King’s Way Christian lost to Seton Catholic 45-7.

Livestream: King’s Way Christian Hudl account.

Last meeting: Castle Rock 45, King’s Way Christian 12, Oct. 20, 2023.

Game notes: Both teams are on the cusp of capturing one of the Trico League’s five berths to the Week 10 playoffs. If Stevenson falls to Seton Catholic, Castle Rock clinches a berth, win or lose this week. King’s Way Christian needs a win this week or next week against Fort Vancouver to secure a spot.

Prediction: King’s Way Christian 31, Castle Rock 23

Fort Vancouver (0-7, 0-5) vs. Columbia-White Salmon (1-6, 0-5)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Bruin Stadium, Columbia HS, 1455 NW Bruin Country Rd, White Salmon

What: 1A Trico League game

Last week: Fort Vancouver lost to Castle Rock 49-0; Columbia-White Salmon forfeited against Kalama.

Livestream: NFHS Network (subscription required)

Last meeting: Columbia-White Salmon 50, Fort Vancouver 6, Oct. 27, 2023.

Game notes: Columbia-White Salmon had to take a forfeit last week against Kalama after injuries left the Bruins with too few eligible varsity players. Columbia is planning to take the field at home against Fort Vancouver this week. The Trappers’ roster has also been depleted by injury and attrition. The Bruins want to control the ball on the ground, while Fort Vancouver want to get the ball outside and downfield to take advantage of their speed.

Prediction: Columbia-White Salmon 20, Fort Vancouver 13

La Center (7-0, 5-0) vs. Kalama (6-1, 4-1)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Chinook Stadium, Kalama HS, 548 China Garden Rd, Kalama

What: 1A Trico League game

Last week: La Center beat Stevenson 58-6; Kalama beat Columbia-White Salmon by forfeit.

Livestream: N2 Media YouTube channel

Last meeting: La Center 17, Kalama 6, Sept. 15, 2023.

Game notes: The win by forfeit last week against Columbia-White Salmon may have been the perfect medicine for Kalama. Quarterback Aiden Brown left the game against Seton Catholic two weeks ago early with a hamstring injury. The week off may have provided an adequate window for healing, but hamstrings can be tricky. Scoring against the stout La Center defense may be even trickier. The Wildcats are allowing a league-low 3.7 point per game this season, and they have notched four shutouts. Both teams have clinched Week 10 playoff berths.

Prediction: La Center 38, Kalama 15

Seton Catholic (7-0, 5-0) vs. Stevenson (2-5, 1-4)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Stevenson High Stadium, Stevenson HS, 390 NW Gropper Rd, Stevenson

What: 2A Greater St. Helens League game

Last week: Seton Catholic beat King’s Way Christian 45-7; Stevenson lost to La Center 58-6.

Livestream: NFHS Network (subscription required)

Last meeting: Seton Catholic 59, Stevenson 0, Sept. 22, 2023.

Game notes: Seton Catholic continues to roll through the season. The Cougars are averaging a league-best 48.9 points a game this season. They have scored at least 41 points in every game this season. Stevenson has allowed an average of 49 points a game over its current four game losing streak. Not a good combo for the Bulldogs.

Prediction: Seton Catholic 48, Stevenson 6
