Chris Parkin of Columbia River selected as Class 2A state baseball player of the year

Chris Parkin of Columbia River was selected as the Class 2A state baseball player of the year by the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association.

Parkin, a senior shortstop in the spring, hit .411 with .545 on-base percentage to spark the Rapids in capturing in the Class 2A state championship.

Parkin also had nine doubles, 16 RBI and a .603 slugging percentage. The recent graduate will play baseball next year for Arizona Central College, a community college in Coolidge, Arizona.

Columbia River head coach Stephen Donohue was selected as the 2A coach of the year by the WSBCA.

Also earning all-state honors for Class 2A were pitchers Noah Coakes and Zach Ziebell of Columbia River, first baseman Liam Ostrom and pitcher Rocco Wright of Ridgefield, infielder Chanz Flores of Hudson’s Bay and pitcher Dossen Morrow of Mark Morris.

Earning all-state honors at Class 4A were pitcher James Gill III and outfielder Jackson Hotchkiss of Battle Ground, utility player Matt Manjooran and pitcher Andrew Miller of Camas and pitcher Caden Spanier of Skyview.

Kelso pitcher Bryce Collins and Prairie pitcher/first baseman Nate Merritt were the only two locals to earn 3A all-state honors.

La Center had five players earn all-state honors at Class 1A — utility player Wyatt Eiesland, outfielder Justin Fuller, pitcher Garrett Maunu, pitcher/first baseman Smith Stimmel and infielder Caden Taylor. Seton Catholic pitcher Kolten Gesser and infielder Teddy Wieczorek also earned all-state honors.
