Game notes: Rochester advanced to the district playoffs for the first time since 2012 through a three-team tiebreaker on Monday. Landon Hawes threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Garren Smith on third-and-12. Trailing 7-6 to Shelton, Rochester coach AJ Easley opted to go for two and the win. Talon Betts ran the ball in for an 8-7 win. Betts has been the top weapon in Rochester’s attack this season. Rochester and Hockinson share a common opponent. They both beat R.A. Long (Rochester won 42-20; Hockinson won 65-13). Hockinson has won six straight since an 0-2 against top-5 2A teams. The Hawks’ defense has been dominant, led by AJ Domingos and Cody Wheeler. Jarod Oldham has passed for 1,330 yards and 18 touchdowns. Wheeler has rushed for 380 yards and eight touchdowns. Kenyon Johnson is the leading receiver with 37 catches for 406 yards and seven touchdowns. Hockinson has won five of its last six district playoff games.
