Week 4 prep football game previews, livestream links and predictions

We were 12-5 on picks last week, moving us to 33-18 (.647) on the season.

Here are the picks for Week 4:

Union vs. Chiawana

When: 6 p.m. Thursday

Where: Edgar Brown Stadium, 801 N. 8th Ave., Pasco

Last week: Union (2-1) beat Heritage 68-7; Chiawana (2-1) beat Hermiston 44-12

Game notes: This matchup is turning into a mini-rivalry. It’s the third time in four seasons the Titans and Riverhawks have met. Union RB Jaydon Jones is one of the top rushers in the area with 274 yards and three TDs. Last week, he let other ballcarriers do the running. He had a touchdown pass instead. Mitch Ratigan has completed 13 of 20 passes for 156 yards since stepping into the starting QB spot for the Titans. JP Zamora, who shined for Chiwana the last time the Riverhawks played Union in 2019, is still leading the Riverhawks. He threw for 256 yards and five TDs last week. 

Prediction: Union 28, Chiawana 21

Camas vs. West Linn

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Game notes: Jon Schultz got Camas’ ground game going last week, rushing for 126 yards. That took some pressure off QB Taylor Ioane, who has attempted 108 passes in the first three weeks for 544 yards, but no touchdowns. Camas has allowed two interceptions to be returned for touchdowns, in addition to one kickoff return and one punt return for scores. West Linn has a 17-3 win over Jesuit in Week 1. The Lions have allowed just 24 total points in three games this season. Jaxon Steinhauer rushed for 104 yards and TD last week. QB Chase Harmon completed 21 of 25 passes for 268 yards and three TDs.

Prediction: West Linn 27, Camas 10

Heritage vs. Mountain View

When: 4:30 p.m. Friday

Where: McKenzie Stadium, 2205 NE 138th Ave., Vancouver

Game notes: Heritage has not beaten Mountain View since 2009. Sincere Scruggs returned a blocked punt 70 yards for a touchdown last week. The Timberwolves rushed for 114 yards vs. Union. Mountain View QB Mitch Johnson has passed for 483 yards and 7 touchdowns. Akili Kamau leads the teams with 224 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Prediction: Mountain View 48, Heritage 6

Battle Ground vs. Evergreen

Game notes: Battle Ground is returning to action after going on COVID protocols last week. Kameron Spencer had a touchdown pass in the Tigers’ loss to Skyview two weeks ago. The Plainsmen rushed for 265 yards against W.F. West. The game was tied 21-21 at halftime last week, before W.F. West pulled away in the second half.

Prediction: Evergreen 40, Battle Ground 6

Kelso vs. Prairie

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: District Stadium, Battle Ground HS, 300 W Main St., Battle Ground

Last week: Kelso (3-0) beat Nooksack Valley 35-7; Prairie (2-1) lost to Marshfield (Ore.) 18-8.

Game notes: Kelso had allowed just seven points in three games. Conner Noah has rushed for 330 yards and five touchdowns. QB Hunter Letteer has passed for 419 yards on 32-of-48 passing with four touchdowns. Defense has been a strength also for Prairie. The Falcons held a potent Marshfield team to 18 points last week. Senior Thor Stepina has led the rushing attack. 

Prediction: Prairie 22, Kelso 20

Woodland vs. Columbia River

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Kiggins Bowl, Discovery MS, 800 E 40th St., Vancouver

Game notes: Dalton Beassie took over the rushing load after Daymon Gressett got hurt and ran for 72 yards last week. Brett Martynowicz passed for 89 yards. Victor Flores led River with 48 yards rushing last week. QB Adam Watts passed for 136 yards. Jakobi Fobbs caught five passes for 53 yards.

R.A. Long vs. Hockinson

Game notes: R.A. Long is seeking its first three-game winning streak since 2014. Hockinson is trying to avoid its first three-game losing streak since 2013. R.A. Long’s Shaun Mize passed for 172 yards and two touchdowns last week. Jamond Harris rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown. Andre Northrup rushed for 48 yards last week, passed for 18 yards and caught four passes for 37 yards last week. 

Prediction: Hockinson 24, R.A. Long 14

Hudson’s Bay vs. Ridgefield

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Ridgefield HS, 2630 Hillhurst Rd., Ridgefield

Game notes: Dylan Damos rushed for 76 yards and caught five passes for 44 yards last week. Dean Castillo passed for 108 yards. The Eagles will have a tough time against the Spudders, who have shut out Heritage and Hockinson. Ridgefield QB Brayden Malella leads the region with 617 passing yards and 10 touchdowns. Ty Snider has 12 receptions for 270 yards and four touchdowns, and Isaiah Cowley has 10 catches for 216 yards and four touchdowns.

Prediction: Ridgefield 42, Hudson’s Bay 6

Washougal vs. Mark Morris

Where: Longview Memorial Stadium, 2903 Nichols Blvd., Longview

Game notes: Washougal sophomore QB Holden Bea has posted improving numbers each week, passing for 63 yards and no touchdowns, 171 yards and one touchdown and 257 yards and four touchdowns. Sam Evers caught five passes for 100 yards last week. Mark Morris’ Jaden Anderson rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns last week. Kellen Desbiens passed for 137 yards.

Prediction: Washougal 33, Mark Morris 20

Montesano vs. Castle Rock

Game notes: Montesano has outscored opponents 96-0 in two games this season. Castle Rock didn’t play last week after Elma withdrew late. Rockets QB Chance Naugle has passed for 326 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 162 yards and five touchdowns.

King’s Way Christian vs. Elma

Game notes: The youthful Knights continue on the rough part of their schedule. Elma is the third straight 1A opponent for King’s Way. In October, the Knights will play 2B opponents. Elma is returning to play after two weeks on COVID protocol.

Eatonville vs. La Center

Game notes: Eatonville senior Kevin Wulff has passed for 730 yards and nine touchdowns. He has also rushed for 164 yards as the Cruisers have spread the carries around the roster. Reilly McIlraith (12 catches, 146 yards), Jakob Lucht (11-285), Job Kralik (10-248) are Wulff’s favorite targets. La Center senior Darren Cepeda has passed for 468 yards and five touchdowns. He has also rushed for 317 yards and five touchdowns. Levi Giles has 15 catches for 219 yards and three touchdowns. He also has two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Davari Grauer gave the Wildcats’ three kickoff return touchdowns in three weeks.

Prediction: Eatonville 27, La Center 14

Seton Catholic vs. Friday Harbor

When: 4:30 p.m. Friday

Where: King’s HS, 19303 Fremont Ave. North, Seattle

Game notes: Seton QB Joe Callerame has passed for 354 yards and six touchdowns. Lance Stuck has 11 catches for 237 yards and four touchdowns. Dax Clifton has 12 catches for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Friday Harbor opened the season with losses to South Whidbey (26-13) and Granite Falls (38-15).

Stevenson vs. Toutle Lake

Game notes: Adna opened the season with a 44-6 loss to Napavine. In two games, Kalama’s Jackson Esary has rushed for 253 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 420 yards and seven touchdowns.

Skyview vs. Coeur d’Alene

Game notes: Gabe Martin had rushed for 292 yards and two touchdowns for Skyview, and Jaydin Knapp has rushed for 223 yards and five TDs. QB Niko Arriola has passed for 332 yards and 6 TDs. Gunner Giulio had two TD runs for Coeur d’Alene last week, including the game-tying score in the final minute of regulation. The Vikings rallied for 28-14 down in the second half. Brayden Bengston had two TD passes. Wyatt Potter scored the go-ahead TD in overtime, then the Vikings had to stop North Creek on a two-point conversion.

Columbia-White Salmon vs. Fort Vancouver
