Skyview was in the process of mounting a huge comeback against Camas on Thursday at Kiggins Bowl.
Down 21-3 at halftime, the Storm cut the deficit 21-17 and were prepared to take the lead when they had the ball inside the Cams 3 with under seven minutes to go.
However, when Skyview running back Jalynnee McGee reached for the end zone, the ball was slapped free and recovered by Camas for a pivotal turnover.
Turns out, McGee probably should have been given a touchdown.
On Friday, McGee tweeted out a video clip from an end zone camera that seems to indicate that McGee stretched the ball out over the plane of the goal BEFORE it was stripped free by the Papermakers. (See video above).
That would have potentially giving Skyview a 24-21 lead. Instead, Camas held on for a 21-17 win.
Now, Camas fans may have issues with a call a couple of plays earlier. Gavin Baskette was ruled to have made a catch on a 29-yard reception to the Camas 4 two plays earlier. But several media members who were on the sideline said the ball hit the turf before Baskette secured it.
But even if that play had been called incomplete, Camas was flagged for a personal foul, so the Storm still would have had first-and-10 at the Camas 18, instead of first-and-goal at the 2.
Would that have made a difference? We’ll never know.
