Prep football preview: Kalama vs. Woodland
NON-LEAGUE GAME
WHEN, WHERE: 7 p.m. Friday at Woodland Stadium, Woodland HS.
LAST YEAR: Kalama 8-2; Woodland 4-5.
GAME NOTES: This is the 14th consecutive season that Kalama and Woodland have opened the season against each other in the Eight-Mile War. Woodland in 8-5 is the previous 13 meetings, but Kalama won last year 20-14. Kalama was the 1A Trico League champion and lost 47-42 to Mount Baker in the 1A state playoffs. The Chinooks will play as a 2B team this season. Kalama came at No. 10 in 2B in the preseason AP rankings. Mike Woodward returns to Southwest Washington has head coach of the Beavers. He brings his high-octane passing offense with him. That appears to be a good fit for junior QB Wyatt Harsh, passed for 1,576 yards and 19 TDs last season. Also back is leading receiver Tyler Flanagan, who caught 42 passes for 526 yards and 8 TDs. Top rusher Tristan Thomas (758 yards, 10 TDs) is also back, as well as all-league lineman Issac Andersen.
FANS’ PICK: Woodland, 79 percent (as of 9 a.m. Thursday)
