Prep football preview: Skyview vs. Sunset

SkySun

NON-LEAGUE GAME

WHEN, WHERE: 7 p.m. Friday at Sunset Stadium, Sunset HS, Beaverton, Ore.

LAST YEAR: Skyview 8-3; Sunset 6-4.

GAME NOTES: Skyview tied for second in the 4A Greater St. Helens League and placed second in a three-team tiebreaker to earn a spot to the state preliminary round. After beating Monroe 28-21, Skyview lost to Camas 29-22 in the state playoffs. The Storm only return two all-leaguers, TE Skyler Martin and WR Jeremiah Wright. But that fact masks the returning talent. The Storm have 13 returning starters. QB Brody Barnum passed for 2,097 yards and 18 TDs. Wright will miss the first three weeks, but receivers Travis Yajko (18 catches, 350 yards) and Tavis Pinkney (13, 249) return. Sunset lost 69-28 to Sheldon in the first round of the Oregon 6A state playoffs. The Apollos are led by QB Jason DuMont, who passed for more than 2,000 yards last season despite battling ankle problems. All-league LB Nick Wiley leads the defense with DL Jovan Macon. Also keep an eye on TE/LB Bradley Thurber and WR/CB Jake Focht.

FANS’ PICK: Skyview, 88 percent (as of 11 a.m. Wednesday)
