Prep football preview: Mark Morris vs. Kelso
NON-LEAGUE GAME
WHEN, WHERE: 7 p.m. Friday at Schroeder Field, Kelso HS.
LAST YEAR: Mark Morris 3-7; Kelso 6-4.
GAME NOTES: Mark Morris placed tied for third in the 2A Greater St. Helens League, then lost 45-0 to Tumwater in the 2A district playoff. Kelso finished second in the 3A Greater St. Helens League and lost to Bishop Blanchet 43-7 in the 3A state preliminary round. Kelso has won three of the last four meetings with the Monarchs, including a 27-0 win last season. Mark Morris QB Will Burghardt rushed for more than 500 yards last season. He returns to lead the Monarchs’ wing-T offense that is strengthen by experience on the offensive line. Kelso QB passed for more than 1,000 yards and 15 TDs as a sophomore last season. WR Sonny Chhim caught 30 passes for 326 yards and 5 TDs in the regular season. The Hilanders have six returners back on defense.
