Interesting story of the evolution of the Richland Bombers mascot
Here in Clark County, we’ve got our fair share of interesting high school mascots (i.e. Ridgefield Spudders or Camas Papermakers). And around the state, and the nation, there is a growing sentiment for schools with Native American mascots (Chiefs, Braves, Indians) to change their mascots.
But in Richland, there is an interesting story about the high school’s nickname and how people’s opinions about it have changed over the years.
For those who don’t know, they are the Richland Bombers, with a logo consisting of an R with a mushroom cloud behind it.
Here’s a link about where the nickname came from and the efforts to change or alter the nickname and logos over the years.
