Battle Ground’s Joner, Woodland’s Flanagan earn WIAA weekly honors
Two local athletes were selected at WIAA Athletes of the Week this week.
Battle Ground wrestler Chris Joner earned the honor for Class 4A boys. The sophomore pinned his way through the Clark County Championships at 120 pounds, and help his team place third in the team scores.
Woodland basketball player Jessica Flanagan earned the honor for 2A girls. The junior had 15 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and six steals, as the Beavers knocked-off Hockinson, 51-35.
Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes 12 varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week. The weekly deadline is noon Tuesday. All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA State Athlete of the Week Award. Students may win the WIAA State Athlete of the Week Award once during any given academic year. Each winner of the WIAA State Athlete of the Week Award will receive a letter of recognition from the WIAA Executive Director, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week T-Shirt and certificate.
