Hockinson, Seton Catholic teams win academic state championships
While many teams are aiming to lock down league titles this week, three local teams have secured state championships.
The Hockinson girls soccer and swimming teams, as well as the Seton Catholic girls soccer team, secured academic state championships, the WIAA announced Wednesday.
The Hockinson girls soccer team, coached by Zach Goldfinch, recorded a 3.819 team GPA among the 19 players on its roster to top all Class 2A girls soccer teams. Brian Lehner is the principal and athletic director at Hockinson.
The Seton Catholic girls soccer team, coached by Amanda McPherson, had a 3.822 team GPA for 13 players to lead 1A teams. In fact, Seton’s GPA was the best among all girls soccer teams at any classification. Ed Little is the principal at Seton, and Phillip Kent in the A.D.
And Hockinson’s girls soccer team, coached by Carolee McAfee, had a 3.930 team GPA among its six swimmers to lead all 2A girls swimming teams.
