Practices for remaining fall sports begin today
Football got a head start last week. Now, everyone else gets started.
Monday was the first day of practice for all WIAA-sanctioned fall sports other than football.
A few years ago, the WIAA allowed for football to begin its practices a bit earlier than other fall sports so the season could begin earlier (allowing for Week 10 cross-district playoffs that lead into the state tournament).
But Monday is opening day for vollyeball, girls soccer, cross country, girls swimming, boys tennis and boys golf.
As most sports require 10 days of practice before the start of the regular season, that means the opening day for competition is Saturday, Sept. 6. There are a couple of events slated for that date.
Golf does not have the 10-day practice minimum. Golf teams get into action Thursday with a couple of preseason jamborees happening in the area. The regular season opens for many team on Wednesday, Sept. 3, the first day of school for many in Clark County.
Let the practices begin.
