Athletes of the Week Nominees 5/13

Nominees for The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for the week of May 6-11:

Chloe Bartek, Columbia River golf. She was 4-under par for her two-round score at district. She made seven birdies in the final round. She won the tournament by 19 strokes. She won the tournament for the third year in a row. She. Is. Awesome.

Nate Beasley, Camas soccer: Scored the go-ahead goal in the district championship match and also had an assist in the victory over Union. Then he added two assists in the bi-district playoff, leading Camas to the Class 4A state tournament.

Trevor Huddleston, Woodland baseball: Threw a complete game to beat previously unbeaten Montesano on Tuesday, clinching a berth to state, then threw six innings and struck out 10 on Saturday as Woodland won its first district baseball crown since 1985.

Jessica Ojukwu, Union girls track and field: Don’t see this triple very often, but Ojukwu won the 100, 200, and 400 at the Class 4A district championships. She won the 100 and 400 on Wednesday, then got the triple with the 200 on Thursday.

James Phillips, Prairie boys track and field: The guy can do a little bit of everything. He won the 300 hurdles on Wednesday at the Class 3A district championships, then won the long jump and high jump, plus took second in the 110 high hurdles on Thursday. All this in leading Prairie to the team title.
