Painting Clark County Red, White and Blue
Washougal Mayor Sean Guard had seen enough. Or rather, he had not seen enough American flags in yards in east Clark County, and so he decided to do something about it.
In conjunction with Valley Forge Flag Company and Camas-based Glory Days Trophies, Guard is taking orders for American flags through Friday.
The goal? To place 500 new American flags across east Clark County. Guard admitted Tuesday that might be an ambitious number, seeing as how he has around 80 orders so far, but he took satisfaction in knowing that was 80 more flags than the area has now.
Guard is charging $10 for purchase and installation of the American-made flags. The flags will be installed at homes around June 30, he said. Money will be collected at the time of installation.
Most of the people who have purchased flags are in Camas and Washougal, Guard said, but a few live in Vancouver and Portland.
All this adds up to more people embracing and celebrating their freedoms as Americans.
“To me it means, literally if I brought it down to one word, liberty,” Guard said of the flags’ meaning.
