C-Tran to thank Harris for her service

One of the first things on the agenda for the C-Tran Board of Directors meeting next Tuesday will be a shout-out to Vancouver City Councilor Jeanne Harris.

Harris — who served on C-Tran for about 10 years and was slated to be the 2011 chairwoman of that board — was pulled from all her appointed boards and commissions last fall. Her fellow council members did it as a response to an ethics violation stemming from what’s become known as “gavel down,” where she fought with fellow Councilor Jeanne Stewart, and yelled at the mayor and citizen speakers.

On the Feb.8 agenda: “Presentation to Jeanne Harris in recognition of her service to the C-Tran Board of Directors.”

Harris, who has said it’s been hard to go to those meetings since being removed from her seats, said in an e-mail today that “Yes, I’ll be there” for the presentation.

Stewart, who was also kicked off C-Tran by her fellow councilors, served on C-Tran for seven years. There’s no word yet if the C-Tran board will make a similar presentation to her.
