BG police chief solves studs mystery

Battle Ground’s new police chief, Bob Richardson, was sworn into office in January.

Richardson hails from Irvine, Calif., where he worked in the city’s police department for more than 30 years.

The average low temperature in Irvine doesn’t drop below 40 degrees during the entire year. Last week, Clark County was blanketed with a couple inches of snow.

Richardson attended last week’s State of the City event and took to the podium to hand out 2010 police department awards.

Before handing out the plaques, Richardson said a few words about the weather.

“First of all, I want to thank you for the weather, being from Southern California and not experiencing A) snow or B) what snow tires are,” Richardson said. “The first day I had them on I kept getting out of my car looking for the flat tire.”

Obviously, the clicking of studded tires on pavement is as foreign to Richardson as the sunshine is to Clark County residents during the winter.
