An hour worth spending

Of course your nerdy city government reporter subscribes to podcasts, including This American Life.

This last Sunday’s edition (which I of course didn’t finish until today) is an excellent primer on the effects of the national attitudes toward taxes, what happens when you try and increase a tax, and also just what’s going on in local government. It includes an interesting story of a guy who works in Colorado Springs, doing the same thing for a private company that he used to do for the city government — for about $12,000 a year less.

Go ahead, government wonk out till you conk out.
