Mielke indicates he will run for re-election

Clark County Commissioner Tom Mielke, in an interview today for “Clark County Focus” on CVTV, said he will very likely run next year for a second four-year term.

The only thing that seemed to stop Mielke, a Republican, for declaring outright is a law that says candidates need to file a declaration of candidacy. (Of course that didn’t stop Commissioner Marc Boldt.)

I’m pleased to report that, unlike my interview with Boldt, I did not run out of written questions and have to start asking them off the top of my head. That’s because I have a co-host, Steve Walker, publisher of The Reflector.

Walker and Ken Vance, editor of The Reflector, will take turns taping “Clark County Focus” with me.

So what else did we talk about? Baseball (why Mielke opposes the admissions tax), biomass (the county would never go along with anything that would be harmful to the neighborhood, he said), budgets and why he’s the only member of the C-Tran Board of Directors to oppose Prop. 1.

Walker asked Mielke if county commissioners were elected only by vote of county employees, would Mielke have a job? Mielke said yes. He said he’s the first to punish staff members, but also the first to protect them.
