Power Couple
Here’s a guest post from intrepid political reporter Kathie Durbin:
Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash, who’s running for a third U.S. Senate term in 2012, is teaming up with Harvard University professor Elizabeth Warren, Wall Street’s most outspoken critic, who’s running to unseat Republican Sen. Scott Brown in Massachusetts next year.
The two will hold a joint fund-raising reception Dec. 9 at Seattle’s Paramount Theater. Tickets are priced at a nominal $40.
“Elizabeth and I have spent our lives fighting for working families and standing up for powerful interests,” Cantwell, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, said in a statement. “I would be proud to have her as a partner in the U.S. Senate where we can continue to work together to help the middle class and hold Wall Street accountable.”
The invitation was sent to the press by Gov. Chris Gregoire, who emailed as the “guest” of a private company, Sound View Strategies.
Warren was profiled in the Nov. 20 New York Times Magazine, which called her a “left-wing idol” for her tough questioning of the use of TARP bailout funds and her efforts to create a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau with teeth.
