A Super Blog post….offering my thoughts/prediction on the big game…

Ahh….Super Bowl 48…the battle of the irresistible force (Denver’s offense) vs. the immovable object (Seattle’s defense)…the collision course we saw coming at around Thanksgiving has finally come to a head tomorrow as the Broncos and the Seahawks will do battle this Sunday for all the marbles. I didn’t want to be the only blogger in the world who hasn’t written about the Super Bowl and given his prediction…because God forbid I be different.

But where I’m different is I offer an unbiased view. I am nor a Seahawk or Bronco fan (only Seattle team I don’t pull for…yep…I sure picked the right one!) however I’ve been going back and forth on who I think is going to win. I can’t remember a Super Bowl in my lifetime which was more evenly matched…and this has been my thought process all week.

My first thought was Denver’s going to win. Denver’s going to win because there is going to be immense pressure on Seattle’s defense (and what is it with Seattle pro sports teams and struggling offenses anyway???). Denver is going to grab the lead and Seattle will struggle because it has to rely on Russell Wilson’s arm, not the power running game, to come back.

Then, I waffled on that…I reversed field like a Percy Harvin kickoff return, saying Seattle was going to win partly because of Harvin. Denver’s offense is just a bit better than Seattle’s defense however Seattle’s offense is much better than Denver’s defense. The Broncos have no answer for Harvin and Seattle finally will get to use the speed of Harvin to get ahead and hold on at the end.

My next thought on the game was this – when Peyton Manning comes to the line he looks at the defense and changes the play based on what the defense is showing.  Because Seattle’s defense is so good, the plays won’t go for as many yards as they will against other defenses but Denver will still be able to move down the field. Seattle’s offensive line has been very suspect all season and won’t be able to move Denver’s stud defensive tackle which will negate the running game. This is my final thought.

I am from a little ways north of Seattle originally…I know far too well the pain and angst the Seattle sports fan has felt. The Mariners are struggling, the Sounders are good but not good enough and the only Seattle major pro sports team to win a title in the last 35 years is no longer there…the Sonics who left for Oklahoma City and to add insult to injury are one of the best teams in the NBA. The Seahawks winning the Super Bowl would be so huge for the city and the Pacfic Northwest as a whole. But I don’t think it’s going to be this year because Peyton Manning is just too good and on too big of a roll right now and the way I see it from the cheap seats his storybook season is going to have a happy ending. This will be the third time I’ve picked against Seattle in the playoffs and I hope I’m wrong this time too. I will be watching the game with some die-hard Seahawks fans and will have my Seahawks hat on pulling for the local team, but my head is overruling my heart right now…Denver 27, Seattle 17.
