Farmers cultivate love for Stuart
Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart, a Democrat, has picked up an endorsement from the Washington Farm Bureau.
Stuart is being challenged by Republican Alan Svehaug, a former contractor.
While it’s not unheard of for the Washington Farm Bureau to back a Democrat, the group does lean right. For example, it endorsed 45 Republicans and five Democrats in legislative races statewide.
Gary Boldt, chairman of the Clark County Farm Bureau, said Stuart was an unanimous pick.
“Steve gets the value of farms to the future of Clark County’s food, rural businesses, and rural character. He listens, he cares, and is great at finding ways to help. He’s been there for us, and we’re definitely there for him. We need him on the commission.”
Boldt’s brother, Marc, serves with Stuart.
Commissioners Marc Boldt and Tom Mielke, both Republicans, will not be up for re-election until 2012.
