Is Jenkins in or out?
Thursday at 6:25 p.m., Vancouver City Council candidate John Jenkins sent a press release conceding his loss in Tuesday’s election to Councilor Bart Hansen.
At 10:08 p.m., he sent an e-mail recalling that message, and followed with another six minutes later saying that he wasn’t prepared to say it’s over just yet.
“Just now I checked my numbers and am trailing my opponent by only 1734 votes. This morning before this posting I trailed by just more then 2000,” he wrote.
Jenkins said he would check in with Clark County elections supervisor Tim Likness Friday before making a final decision. An e-mail sent to him before noon had not been answered as of 4 p.m.
Likness told The Columbian Friday afternoon that fewer than 2,000 ballots remained to be counted. Jenkins still trailed by 1,734 votes as of Friday afternoon.
