Senator-elect Cleveland named to Democratic leadership

Democratic senator-elect Annette Cleveland, who soon will replace outgoing state Sen. Craig Pridemore, D-Vancouver, was picked today for a leadership position with Senate Democrats.

Cleveland was chosen by her fellow Democrats to serve as assistant floor leader. That means she will help the floor leader carry out party strategy during debates on the Senate floor.

Cleveland will represent people living in the 49th Legislative District, which includes the Vancouver area west of Interstate 205 and south of Felida.

Last week, other legislators from Clark County were elevated to positions of leadership within their parties. State Rep. Paul Harris, R-Vancouver, was selected as House Republican whip, and state Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, was picked as House Republican assistant floor leader.

The House Democrats and Senate Republicans have yet to announce their leadership decisions for the upcoming legislative session.

Rather than seek re-election, Pridemore ran for state auditor. He was eliminated in the August primary election.
