Seekins endorsed by Realtors
The Clark County Association of Realtors has endorsed Janet Seekins for Clark County assessor.
“The choice to endorse Seekins was unanimous,” said Linda McClellan, president of the 1,500-member association.
“It was such an easy decision. It is obvious that she knows her job. No two ways about it,” McClellan said.
“She seems to have really good people skills and I think she’s just going to fit in really well as a manager,” McClellan said.
Seekins, a senior residential appraiser, has worked for the assessor’s office for 29 years.
The Democrat is running against Republican Peter Van Nortwick, a self-employed appraiser who belongs to the Realtor’s organization.
Van Nortwick has been a licensed appraiser since 2003 and a certified general real estate appraiser since 2007.
Republican Daniel Weaver, who finished fourth in the primary, has endorsed Seekins.
Republican David Horowitz, who finished third, has not made a public endorsement.
Assessor Linda Franklin opted not to seek a third four-year term. She endorses Seekins, as does Ben Gassaway, who served as assessor from 1979 to 2002.
The general election is Nov 2.
