Weaver endorses Seekins for assessor
Republican Daniel Weaver, who was eliminated in the August primary in his bid for Clark County assessor, said Thursday that he’s endorsing Democrat Janet Seekins over Republican Peter Van Nortwick.
In a press release, Weaver wrote that he “is unable to support Mr. Van Nortwick for the assessor position.”
Weaver, a retired business executive, serves on the Clark County Board of Equalization, which hears appeals from taxpayers.
Van Nortwick called the group the “Board of Unequalization.”
Weaver said the board provides a very valuable appeal process for taxpayers.
Weaver said Seekins, who works as a senior residential appraiser for the assessor’s office, should be elected Nov. 2 to replace Linda Franklin, who opted not to run for a third four-year term.
He said Seekins’ “experience and consistent approach to the assessor position provides the stability needed.”
Republican David Horowitz, who finished third in the primary, has not publicly endorsed either Seekins or Van Nortwick.
