Brian Peck, the Republican gas station owner who’s running to unseat Democrat Tim Probst in the 17th District, put out the alert Tuesday: “Last night Monica Stonier and Tim Probst put up hundreds of signs — and we need to respond in kind!” (Stonier is the middle school teacher who’s running for Democratic state Rep. Deb Wallace‘s open seat in the 17th.)

“Help us assemble signs today!” Peck urged. “We want to get 500 signs out in response. They’re running scared, and we need to keep them running!”

Give Peck credit for enthusiasm. The truth is, he’s guaranteed a face-off with Probst in the fall because as the only two candidates running for the seat, both will advance in the top two primary.
