State Rep. Jaime Herrera, R-Camas, has landed the endorsement of former 3rd Congressional District Rep. Linda Smith in her own run for the 3rd District seat. Smith was the last Republican to hold the position representing Southwest Washington. A former state legislator, she was elected to Congress as part of the 1994 Republican sweep and served two terms before relinquishing the seat to run unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate.

Herrera also won the endorsement of the Cowlitz County Republican Party at its convention last Saturday.

State Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, a candidate for the U.S. Senate, announced that he has been endorsed by state Sen. Mike Carrell, a retired Pierce County educator and a member of the Senate Republican Caucus leadership. Benton’s “pro-economic growth approach is what we need to help get the American economy back on track,” Carrell said.
