Candidates boast NRA stamp of approval
At its March 13 banquet, the National Rifle Association of Clark County issued “awards of appreciation” to state Sen. Don Benton, 18th District candidates Ann Rivers and Jon Russell, and Clark County Commissioner Tom Mielke.
Rivers, a La Center Republican, took the opportunity to proclaim that she comes from a family of hunters and has hunted many times with her husband and children.
“One of the many legacies I want to leave behind is the right to hunt and to insure that families coming on after mine will continue to enjoy this fantastic hobby and adventure,” she said.
Russell issued his own statement on the award, noting that he “enjoys hunting when the occasion presents itself” — and also has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
