Herrera debuts on Capitol Hill

State Rep. Jaime Herrera, R-Camas, captured the attention of the Capitol Hill on-line news site Politico Thursday morning during a fund-raising and press event in Washington, D.C. Reporter Josh Kraushaar said Herrera “stands out as one of the few Hispanic Republicans running for Congress this year” as she campaigns to succeed Rep. Brian Baird. He noted that the GOP has only a handful of serious Hispanic House candidates running in 2010.

By Kraushaar’s account, Herrera presented herself as a moderate.

“I’m a different package. I’m a lady, I’m younger. It’s intriguing to some folks, so I’ll take it,” she said. “But I have never been one that said we need certain quotas for everything. We need to make sure we’re representing everyone’s view.”
