Music at Esther Short Park A Joy

Friday night I stopped in at the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival to enjoy Hawaiian food, refreshments, some great conversation, and of course, America’s original art form: jazz. The headliner that night was Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band. Rich tempos and warm horns swept the audience off its feet- some literally. A smattering of couples danced.

For the Festival, the headliner I heard most about was Arturo Sandoval, a protégé of Dizzy Gillespie. Checking Facebook, I saw many friends made the concert. Sounds like it was pure joy. Great music is pure joy, no matter what the genre.

Concerts in the park brought huge crowds this summer to Downtown Vancouver. I also attended a couple Six to Sunset concerts. The Vancouver Symphony was particularly well-suited for Esther Short Park, a summer night, and hundreds of music lovers.

The yearly ritual of outdoor concerts is something many residents look forward to and enjoy. As Summer 2015 winds down, I’m lucky I got to experience a few events and will make sure to attend more next summer.
