It’s been a long time, hasn’t it? Major family crisis now resolved so it’s time to get back to what passes for normal in my life. Which means, among other things, blogging about love and food.

And it’s a new season, autumn, my favorite. Maybe it’s the fact that my birthday is in the fall. Or because I get to watch kids soldier on wearing Halloween costumes sodden with rain for just a few more houses because they don’t have quite enough candy. Or maybe it’s the crisp air and red and gold leaves. Whatever the reason, I love fall.

It may seem more challenging to make a romantic meal when the weather gets chilly, the rains come (at least in the Pacific Northwest they do) and the selection of fresh, local ingredients diminishes significantly. But think about it–what’s more romantic than cuddling up in front of a fire–or under a blanket on the couch–with a cup of hot, homemade soup and someone you love?

I’ll give you one idea for the soup, at least, on Friday. Stay tuned.
