Woodland names new baseball coach
Former Camas baseball standout Mitch Kochis has been named the head baseball coach at Woodland High School.
Kochis was an all-league baseball player at Camas in 2002 and 03 before playing college baseball at Cumberland University and Northwest Nazarene. He is on staff at Woodland as a counselor.
“It’s obvious he has a passion for the game and the desire to continually find ways to improve the program,” said Woodland’s athletic director Paul Huddleston in a press release.
“He’s a perfect fit for our program,” Huddleston noted.
Kochis will be taking over a program that finished second in Class 1A baseball last spring. Woodland now is a Class 2A program, a member of the 2A Greater St. Helens League.
Stephen Short, who coached the Beavers to the championship game last season, is now the coach at Camas.
