Prep athlete of the week nominees 2/4
Nominees for The Columbian’s prep athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 2. Athletes are limited to one nomination during the regular season.
WYATT AGUIRRE, LA CENTER BOYS BASKETBALL: Aguirre scored 22 points in a win over White Salmon and added 11 more against Ilwaco as the Wildcats locked up the No. 3 seed to the 1A district playoffs.
MADISON CROCKETT, SKYVIEW GIRLS BOWLING: Crockett became the fourth Clark County bowler to win the Class 4A state championship with a six-game total of 1,324 (221) average to win by 57 pins.
EMMA DUCHESNE, MOUNTAIN VIEW GIRLS BASKETBALL: DuChesne scored 15 points and 12 points in two wins over Kelso, which gave the Thunder the No. 2 seed to the district tournament and berth in the bi-district tournament.
NICOLE MOSS, HERITAGE GYMNASTICS: Moss won the all-around title with a score of 38.15 at the 4A district championship, helping Heritage take the team title. Moss also won the bars (9.6) and beam (9.4).
RAMON ORTIZ, EVERGREEN WRESTLING: Ortiz won the 4A district title at 120 pounds with a second-period pin. He also moved up to No. 1 in the Washington Wrestling Report’s state rankings at 120 pounds.
