Columbian’s AP basketball ballot for 1/23
This week’s vote didn’t include a lot of changes.
Last week, I had the Columbia River boys at No. 5 in an effort to get the Chieftains more visibility to other voters. It almost worked, as River just missed the top 10.
But this week after a lopsided loss to Foss, I dropped the Chieftains down to No. 10.
Also, I moved the La Center girls to the No. 10 spot in the 1A girls poll, in as much a credit to the strength of the league with Castle Rock and Woodland.
I moved Mark Morris boys up a spot even after a loss to top-ranked Lynden. And if I moved Mark Morris up, I had to move Washougal up one spot with the Monarchs.
And the Skyview girls are a different team now than they were in December. They are 6-0 in the 4A Greater St. Helens League with a good shot at going 10-0. I deliberated putting the Storm at No. 10 in the 4A poll, but their 10-6 overall mark kept me from doing so. Maybe next week.
