Prep athlete of the week nominees 1/21
Nominees for The Columbian’s prep athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 14-19. Athletes are limited to one nomination during the regular season.
GABE BUNKER, LA CENTER BOYS WRESTLING: Bunker won the 160-pound division and was the named the outstanding wrestler in the upper weights at the Kalama Rubber Chicken Invitational.
JORDAN HEARD, SKYVIEW GIRLS BOWLING: Heard rolled a 276 game and added two other games of 213 during three matches last week that capped the regular season.
DAVID SNUFFIN, COLUMBIA RIVER BOYS SWIMMING: Snuffin broke the Columbia River school record for the 50 freestyle, winning in a state-qualifying time of 22.37 seconds. He also won the 100 freestyle in 50.62 seconds in a meet against Skyview.
AUBREY WARD-EL, SKYVIEW BOYS BASKETBALL: Ward-El scored 21 points in Skyview’s big win over Union and added 14 in a win over Heritage as the Storm moved into first place in the 4A GSHL.
WYATT YEAROUT, HOCKINSON BOYS BASKETBALL: Yearout had 24 points and eight rebounds in a key 2A GSHL win over Washougal. He added 13 points, including a key late 3-pointer against Ridgefield as the Hawks shared first place in the league.
