Prep athlete of the week nominees 12/23

Nominees for The Columbian’s prep athlete of the week for the week of Dec. 17-22. Only four nominees this week because the bowlers and gymnasts were idle last week.

JAKE BREUER, SKYVIEW BOYS SWIMMING: Breuer set a meet record in winning the 200 individual medley at the Kelso Invitational in a Class 4A state-qualifying time of 2:03.07. He also won the 100 breaststroke at the meet.

JOMARRI GABLE, HUDSON’S BAY BOYS BASKETBALL: Gable scored the game-winning basket to beat Heritage then was named the MVP of the North Marion Holiday Tournament, turning in a double-double in the title game win over Skyview.

MAR’SHAY MOORE, FORT VANCOUVER GIRLS BASKETBALL: Moore scored 59 of Fort’s 81 points in two games last week, including the game-winner in a victory over Hockinson.

ANTHONY THOMAS, EVERGREEN WRESTLING: Thomas won the 170-pound division at the Best of the West tournament in Pasco, beating Seth McLeod of Post Falls (Idaho) in the finals. He also won two matches by technical fall in Friday’s dual-match portion of the tournament.
