River’s Remick Kawawaki answers Ivy League call

Columbia River football standout Remick Kawawaki also is an academic standout.

Combine the two, and Kawawaki is headed to the Ivy League to continue his education and play college football.

Kawawaki confirmed with The Columbian that he had three choices of Ivy League schools but determined Yale was the place for him. He told Yale officials last week that he would become a Bulldog.

Kawawaki will play safety or outside linebacker at Yale. Known more around here for his running back skills, Kawawaki has been a varsity starter at Columbia River since he was a sophomore.

This past season, Kawawaki helped Columbia River to an undefeated league mark and a 3A Greater St. Helens League title.

I will have more on Kawawaki and how he became an Ivy Leaguer next week in The Columbian.
