Prep fall athlete of the week nominees 10/15

Nominees for The Columbian’s fall sports athlete of the week for the week of Oct. 8-13.

JACOB BUCKLEY, UNION BOYS TENNIS: Buckley beat Jonathan Ho of Camas 6-4, 7-6 and won a doubles match vs. Heritage to help Union complete a 5-0 season in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League.

LAUREN ROOD, CAMAS GIRLS SOCCER: The goalkeeper recorded nine saves and two shutouts last week as the Papermakers beat Skyview and tied Union to remain in first place in the 4A GSHL.

DARYA SAMIEE, MOUNTAIN VIEW GIRLS SWIMMING: Samiee won the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle events in a meet with Camas and other North County programs. Her 200 IM time of 2:16.05 was a state-qualifying mark.

IAN SPICER, UNION BOYS GOLF: Spicer shot a second-round 67 at Tri-Mountain to finish with a two-day total of 139 to win the 4A district championship by five shots.

KELSEY WHILES, HOCKINSON VOLLEYBALL: Whiles recorded 58 assists, 23 service points and six aces in a pair of 2A GSHL wins for the Hawks.
