Bay hires former Roosevelt basketball coach
Robert Key, a two-time Portland Interscholastic League coach of the year at Roosevelt, is bringing his philosophy to this side of the river to take over at Hudson’s Bay.
“Robert brings with him basketball knowledge, support for kids, and willingness to push athletes to to be positive role models in everything that they do,” said Stoney Myers, Bay’s athletic director.
Several former players, parents and school boosters at Roosevelt High School would likely agree. They were upset last spring when Key’s contract was not renewed by the school.
Key told The Oregonian in May that he was not given a reason for his dismissal. At the time, he had several supporters hoping to get Key back at Roosevelt.
Key will be taking over for Andy Meyer, who left the coaching ranks to become an administrator within Vancouver Public Schools.
“It was a major blow to our program when Andy Meyer took another position, but we feel strongly that Robert will continue to grow our program,” Myers said.
