Can We Get A Heptathlon Here?

They held the girls javelin Wednesday at the 4A district track and field meet, and it’s surprising a basketball game didn’t break out. Or maybe a volleyball match. Or, even better, maybe a heptathlon.

Taylor Barrus of Skyview won the event with a mark of 136 feet. Barrus also was The Columbian’s all-region volleyball player of the year in the fall.

Angelique Williams of Union was second with a toss of 124-8. She also was an all-region selection in basketball in the winter.

Aubrey Ward-El of Skyview was third at 123-1. She wasn’t an all-region player in basketball; she simply made a last-second 3-pointer that gave the Storm a state championship.

Three pretty accomplished athletes. On second thought, a heptathlon might not be a bad idea.
