Tuesday's prep highlights
Even though it was the first day of spring, it still looked a lot like winter around Clark County on Tuesday.
And the weather doesn’t look to clear until late in the day Thursday. So it might not be until Friday until we see more baseball and softball games played.
But there were a few hardy souls out there on Tuesday:
Baseball:
Camas 12, Hudson’s Bay 4: The Papermakers and Eagles went over to Portland to play the Concordia University to take advantage of the Cavaliers’ all-weather playing surface. Nate Lauritzen struck out eight batter in five innings for Camas, and Dylan White went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Emilio Alcantar was 2 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored for Bay.
Softball:
Camas 15, Washougal 0: The Papermakers and Panthers got three innings in before the rain became too heavy to continue. Mikaela Searight was 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBI, and Sarah Nidick was 3 for 3 with two triples, two runs and seven RBI for Camas.
Boys soccer:
Seton Catholic 5, King’s Way Christian 0: Sean Powell had the highlight of the night, scoring one of his two goals on an over-the-head bicycle kick into the upper V for Seton. “I was shocked that he had enough room to get up there like that,” Seton coach Dave McPherson said. “I couldn’t believe that shot. He was completely inverted.” John Polen had a goal and three assists for the Cougars.
Ridgefield 5, Stevenson 0: Kyle Morris had two goals and Tanner Konkright had a goal and an assists the Spudders improved to 3-0.
Boys track and field
Union 92, Forest Grove 43: Union’s Micah Merfeld won the shot put, javelin, high jump and long jump in a season-opening meet for the Titans.
Washougal 106, White Salmon 34, Stevenson 33: Karsten Short won the 100 meters, 200 and long jump for Washougal.
Girls track and field
Union 106.5, Forest Grove 28.5: Union’s Jessica Ojukwu (100, 200), Katilyn McKinney (400, 800), Heather Browning (300 hurdles, high jump) and Vanessa Muckerheide (shot put, discus) were dual-winners for the Titans.
Washougal 87, Stevenson 45, White Salmon 37: Jen Rathbeger of Stevenson won both hurdles races and the long jump.
