Week 7 football preview: Mountain View vs. Kelso
When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Schroeder Field, Kelso HS (Class 3A Greater St. Helens League game).
Last meeting: Mountain View won 28-0 on Oct. 15, 2010 in Vancouver.
Last week: Mountain View beat Fort Vancouver 47-0; Kelso beat Evergreen 20-7.
Mountain View (4-2, 2-1): The Thunder have averaged 47 points a game in their four wins, and 11 points in their two losses. … A suffocating defense limited Fort Vancouver to 75 yards of offense last week, setting the Thunder offense up with short TD drives. … Michael Rivers leads Mountain View with 272 yards on the season, but the Thunder have used so many different ball carriers it’s tough to focus on just one player.
Kelso (3-3, 2-1): The Hilanders have won back-to-back games to put themselves right in the thick of the playoff chase. But Kelso faces three tough league games to finish the regular season. They may need to win two of three to make the playoffs. … Kelso has held opponents to an average of six points in its three wins; in its three losses, opponents have scored an average of 34 points. … Kelso is 3-0 against winless teams (Evergreen, Hudson’s Bay, Fort Vancouver) and 0-3 against teams with wins.
Bottom line: Expect a fast game, as both teams like to run the ball A LOT. Mountain View figures to do it better.
Columbian’s pick: Mountain View.
Fans’ pick: Mountain View (86 percent).
