Week 7 football preview: Columbia River vs. Fort Vancouver

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Kiggins Bowl (Class 3A Greater St. Helens League game).

Last meeting: Columbia River won 14-12 on Oct. 15, 2010.

Last week: Columbia River lost to Prairie 19-9; Fort Vancouver lost to Mountain View 47-0.

Columbia River (4-2, 2-2): The Chieftains are looking to rebound from a tough loss to Prairie. The loss hurt River’s playoff hopes, but didn’t kill them. But the Chieftains must win out — Friday against Fort and Oct. 28 against Mountain View. If they do win both games, it would likely set up a three-way tie between River, Prairie and Mountain View for second, third and fourth, with two teams advancing to the 3A state preliminary round.

Fort Vancouver (0-6, 0-3): The Trappers have been outscored 158-6 in the 3A GSHL play this season. … Fort managed only 75 yards of offense last week against Mountain View and most of that came in the second half with the running-clock rule in play.

Bottom line: River QB Clayton Frank said the Chieftains came out flat last week against Prairie. That does not bode well for the Trappers.

Columbian’s pick: Columbia River.

Fans’ pick: Columbia River (90 percent).
