Week 6 football preview: Ridgefield vs. Kalama

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Chinook Stadium, Kalama HS (1A Trico League game)

Last meeting: Ridgefield won 38-18 on Oct. 8, 2010 in Ridgefield.

Last week: Ridgefield beat Stevenson 49-7; Kalama beat Toledo 41-34.

Ridgefield (4-1, 2-1): Michael Knox had a huge game against Stevenson with a 70-yard TD run, 54-yard punt return for TD and a 67-yard interception return for a TD. Knox finished with 136 yards on 19 carries. He has rushed for 593 yards on the season. … The Spudders and Chinooks share a common opponent: Woodland. Ridgefield beat Woodland 27-20 in Week 2. Kalama lost to the Beavers 48-33 in Week 1.

Kalama (3-2, 3-0): After opening losses to Woodland and Hoquiam, the Chinooks have rolled since, winning three straight and scoring at least 34 points in each. … Kalama used its team speed to knock off defending league champion Toledo last week. … Austin Johnson had 123 yards rushing on 23 carries. Jake Clizbe had 11 carries for 136 yards and QB Ethan Oomittuk rushed for 94 yards.

Bottom line: This has all the earmarks of a classic matchup. Ridgefield needs to win to stay in the league title hunt.
