Week 5 football preview: Columbia River vs. Hudson’s Bay

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Chieftain Stadium, Columbia River HS (3A Greater St. Helens League game)

Last meeting: Columbia River won 34-19 on Oct. 1, 2010.

Last week: Columbia River beat Hockinson 36-22; Hudson’s Bay lost to Battle Ground 21-15.

Columbia River (3-1, 1-1): The Chieftains actually trailed Hockinson 16-14 in the fourth quarter before Clayton Frank threw two TD passes in the fourth quarter and Remick Kawawaki capped the game with his second rushing TD. … Kawawacki finished 125 yards rushing on only nine carries, with two going for TDs. … Kawawaki has rushed for 501 yards on the season.

Hudson’s Bay (0-4, 0-1): The Hudson’s Bay defense has kept the Eagles in most of their games this season. But the offense has only mustered 30 points all season. … Bay’s defense picked off three passes last week against Battle Ground, with Jahmile Sipaia returning one for a TD. … Sipaia rushed for 99 yards, and Richard Carter rushed for 92 vs. Battle Ground. … The Eagles have struggled to pass the ball, so falling behind early would not be good.

Bottom line: Columbia River’s defense is good enough to keep Bay off the board. And Kawawaki and Frank will provide enough offense for River to win.

Columbian’s pick: Columbia River.

Fans’ pick: Columbia River.
