Week 4 football preview: Woodland vs. Scio

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Scio HS, Scio, Ore. (non-league game)

Last meeting: Scio won 54-13 on Sept. 24, 2010 in Woodland.

Last week: Woodland lost to Battle Ground 28-12; Scio beat Horizon Christian 30-13.

Scio (2-1): Scio went 14-0 last season en route to winning the Oregon 2A state championship. … The Loggers scored fewer than 46 points in a game only once last season. … Scio opened this season with 28-6 loss to Dayton. … The Loggers plan on running the ball first, second and third. .. Daniel Harper leads the Loggers with 519 yards. He had 338 yards in the Week 2 win over Oakridge.

strong>Woodland (1-2): QB Adam Shoup was Woodland’s top rusher against Battle Ground with 123 yards. That included an 80-yard TD run. … Shoup struggled in the passing game, completing 6 of 19 passes for 55 yards and two interceptions. … He has passed for 257 yards and 4 TDs this season. … On the strength of a big Week 1 performance, Cy Whitmire leads the region in rushing with 396 yards.

Bottom line: Woodland has improved last year’s game results each week this season. But the Beavers have a lot to reverse from last year’s meeting with Scio. And this one is down in the Willamette Valley.
