Week 2 football preview: Fort Vancouver vs. Battle Ground

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at District Stadium, Battle Ground.

Last meeting: Fort Vancouver won 45-27 on Sept. 10, 2010 at Kiggins Bowl.

Last week: Fort Vancouver lost to Ridgefield 37-8; Battle Ground lost to Columbia 16-6.

Fort Vancouver (0-1): The Trappers unveiled their new passing attack against Ridgefield, netting 191 yards. Taylor VanHeck led Fort with six catches for 101 yards. … QB Jacob Austin was 15 for 33 for 191 yards and two interceptions. He also ran for Fort’s only TD. … The Trappers’ ground game struggled, gaining only 61 yards. Abdul Conteh led Fort with 14 carries for 35 yards. … Defensively, Fort gave up 406 rushing yard to Ridgefield.

Battle Ground (0-1): Coach Larry Peck said junior Ian Humphrey played well in his first varsity start, completing 12 of 25 passes for 194 yards and no interceptions. … Battle Ground also had several drops. … Trevor Ingram caught four passes for 75 yards, including a 23-yard TD reception. … Like Fort, Battle Ground also struggled to run the ball. Kevin Haynes led the Tigers with 29 yards on 11 carries.

Bottom line: Both teams are looking to throw more this season, but both also struggled to run the ball. But Battle Ground played better defense.
